About me

Hello! My name is Amy Cheifetz Billings, a voice teacher and performer based in historic downtown Summerville, SC. I have been teaching singers to find their authentic and uniquely beautiful voice and performing personality for twenty-five years.

As a singer myself, I have been performing in Musical Theatre and Opera since I was ten years old.

Originally from Oakland, California, I acquired my love of music from my parents. From my mother, I got my passion for Musical Theatre, listening and singing along to her original Broadway cast albums. From my father, I learned my love for classical music and opera.

When I was nine years old, I auditioned for a local production of Annie. I’ve been performing ever since!

I have advanced degrees in vocal performance from the University of California, Irvine and the University of Washington. In 1998, I moved to New York City to study with the renowned voice teacher and pedagogue, Cornelius Reid.

During my years in NYC, I was on the voice faculty of the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA NY), had a thriving private studio, and performed regularly around the region.

In 2011, my husband and I relocated to Salem, Oregon to take care of my elderly mother. While there, I had a thriving private vocal studio, was a vocal director for numerous musicals, and performed with local theatres.

In 2018, my husband and I relocated to Summerville, SC to be closer to his family. We love the Lowcountry and Charleston metropolitan area and are so happy to call this place home.

Some highlights of my own singing career:

  • My Musical Theatre roles include The Witch in Into the Woods, the Woman in Marry Me A Little, and Glinda in The Wizard of Oz.

  • My operatic roles include Musetta in La Bohème and Despina in Così fan tutte.

  • Solo recital at the Salle Cortot in Paris, France

  • Cast member of the Metropolitan Opera Guild’s Opera Outreach program, introducing young people to opera.

  • Young Artist with the Utah Festival Opera
